Signs & symptoms of joint discomfortUpdated 4 months ago

With 1 in 5 dogs developing osteoarthritis in their lifetime (reference), it’s very important for pet parents to look out for and recognise signs of joint discomfort. Some signs to look out for include:

  • Limping or favoring a limb
  • Stiffness, especially after rest
  • Reluctance to move, jump, or climb stairs
  • Difficulty rising from a lying down position
  • Swelling or visible deformity around joints
  • Audible clicking or popping sounds when moving
  • Reluctance to exercise
  • Visible signs of pain such as whimpering or yelping
  • Changes in posture or gait
  • Visible signs of discomfort when touched around joints

These symptoms are also very common signs of other diseases or disorders. If you observe your pet to have one or more of these symptoms, please consult your veterinarian.
